VILLAGE
CREEK NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
Minutes
of the General Meeting held March 13, 2003
The meeting was called
to order at 7:06 pm in the Planning Department Meeting Room, City Hall, Plano,
Texas, by President Craig Jacobs. There
were 10 members present, 1 honorary member and 1 guest.
John Wilson, Crime
Watch Coordinator, said he had obtained the new stickers from the street signs
and will put them up shortly. Crime Watch information was presented by
Neighborhood Police Officer Alicia Nors. Problems
with auto traffic navigation within the neighborhood was then discussed and the
sewer repairs, parked cars and barricades were noted.
Cheryl Doyle mentioned
that Rodney Noles from the city will be having probationers doing alley cleanup
during the next weekend. The
neighborhood's participation in The Great American Cleanup and Keep Plano
Beautiful, scheduled for April 5th,
was then discussed. Sunrise
Rotary can provide 10 people and Justice of the Peace John Peyton will have
about 40 community service people that can help. Vice President James Edwards will sign us up.
It was agreed to meet at Barron School at 8:00 am on April 5.
Chairperson Doug
Jacobs discussed our web site www.village-creek.org
and said he would update the bylaws for typographical errors.
He also invited us to send any pictures of the neighborhood and he will
post them.
Neighborhood Night Out
was then discussed. Faith Lutheran
Church and Pastor Frick are offering to host the event in the family center
again this year. We decided that a
special coordinating meeting will be called in April by President Jacobs.
The minutes of the
last meeting were read and accepted. Vicki
Verinder, Secretary/Treasurer, gave the treasury report: we have about $590 in
our bank account and we spent $62 for the fliers for last month's meeting.
It was decided to pursue getting the funds from the old Wyatt North
Neighborhood Association since that group was consolidated into this one.
President Jacobs will serve as secondary signature and he and
Secretary/Treasurer Verinder will arrange the change to the signature card and
the association name on the account.
Officer Nors
introduced Officer Allison McCann as a guest.
New business:
Vicki President Edwards announced that the city removed a problem tree in
Santa Fe Park and planted an evergreen in its place, making a good entry to
Schell Park. The moving of two disc
golf holes in Shawnee Park was discussed and Officer Nors will find a contact
from the city that can help. She
also mentioned that bicycle trails are being connected to Allen to the north and
that eventually, the trails may be connected all the way up to Sherman.
Shopping carts being left in
the neighborhood are a continuing problem.
We will be able to put the store manager phone numbers for Carnival and
Fiesta stores on our outdoor meeting announcement signs and invite residents to
call. Maria Rosales mentioned that
the baseball backstop in Shawnee Park had been bulldozed and children were
climbing on it. Vice President
Edwards will contact Park and Recreation about it.
An annual neighborhood
plan review has been solicited from us by the city planning department by early
April for later presentation to the City Council. President Jacobs will draft a bylaw amendment to require an
annual plan review.
Our next meeting will
be April 10 followed by May 8. We
will use the July meeting for National Night Out.
The May 8th meeting will be announced by newsletter.
The need for a newsletter committee was brought up and any ideas for
easier distribution of it was solicited. It
was agreed to post meeting agendas on the website.
Rodney Noles, city code enforcement, will attend our next meeting.
It was decided to have a
special board meeting with any other members able to attend to discuss the Ave K
Corridor plan the city has drawn up and its impact on traffic, particularly
around Parker and Ave K during peak. President
Jacobs will arrange it.
The meeting was
adjourned at 8:27 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Vicki Verinder,
Secretary
