VILLAGE CREEK NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
Minutes of the General Meeting held June 12, 2003
The meeting was called to
order by Vice President James Edwards at 7:10 pm. There were 6 members present.
President Craig Jacobs was not present due to a personal emergency. There was the approval of the agenda and the
reading and approval of the secretary and treasurer report by Vicki Verinder. The account holds $592.41 and there was no
activity during the month.
The City has invited public
input to the Land Use planning session being held in Council Chambers at 7pm,
6/18.
Our NPO, Alicia Nors, was not
present to give the crime report. James
said the crime stats are being migrated to a new computer system and are not
easily accessed at present. We
discussed the situation of a disturbance at Tarkio and Parker. It was mentioned that Paul Meyer, a Dallas
Morning News reporter, has interviewed the parties involved who are claiming
police harassment. Mr. Meyer would like input from the neighborhood to give our
input. His numbers are 469-330-5648 and
214-968-1044. It was suggested that we
all make a conscious effort to give a friendly wave when passing neighbors
working in their yards.
The National Night Out was
then discussed. 25 pizza's are promised
by International Bakery and Pizzeria, Discovery Scuba is donating a free trial
for a family of 5. Other donations are promised from Dicky's BBQ, Woodcraft and
Academy. We expect to have city
employees attending NNO from Parks and Rec, Code Enforcement, Planning,
etc. Our association will sponsor a
booth and give out magnetic business cards with our web site, contact phone
numbers and important City numbers on it.
Vicki can get 250 free cards and Cheryl and Linda will get the magnetic
backing. We plan to had out a packet of
association information (by-laws, minutes of the last meeting, a map of the
neighborhood, etc.) Kate Tovell, out
City Planning Specialist, will be asked if we can borrow the big poster of the
neighborhood for a backdrop. The next
NNO meeting will be 6/24.
No progress was reported on
the yard beautification project with JoAnne Stahl.
James has prepared some
stencils to put the neighborhood association web URL onto the ALERT signs but
they the letters are too small to see from the road. He will do his area first then look at doing ours.
We then reviewed the 5-year
plan to determine the status of each item in the action matrix. Most open items were to have action taken by
a city department and not the council.
We suggested to Doug that the plan or at least the matrix could go onto
the web site to show what had been accomplished and what still needed working
on. James suggested we start working on
a revision to the plan to look at the next 5 years and presented a package
proposal of his suggestions. We have
been asked by City Planning to prepare a Phase 2 to the plan and all the
suggestions discussed along with the outstanding items from the first plan will
be used as a basis for this phase 2 document.
It was suggested we consider an annual planning session with that
department each spring.
Kate has requested that we
all visit the Neighborhood Resource Center on the City web site. It should be informative.
The next neighborhood meeting
will be on 7/10 at 7:00 pm.
The meeting was adjourned at
8:50pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Vicki Verinder, Secretary
