VILLAGE CREEK
NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
Minutes of the General
Meeting held August 14, 2003
The
meeting was called to order by Secretary/Treasurer Vicki Verinder, in the
absence of President Craig Jacobs and Vice President James Edwards, at 7:10 pm in
Training Room A, City Hall. There were 9 members present. James arrived after the call to order. The minutes of the last meeting were read by
Secretary/Treasurer Vicki Verinder and approved. Vicki also presented the Treasurer's report. The account contains $285.40 and there were
$296.00 in expenses related to the National Night Out. That event raised $347.00 which will be
deposited shortly.
Officer
Nors told us about a regional meeting being planned with police, property
standards, city employees and the local grocery stores to attend and discuss
the problem with shopping carts being taken from the stores and deposited in
the neighborhood.
National
Night Out was a big success but attendance was down from last year. There was more food and people stayed
longer. A motion to distribute the
unused slot-car tickets to the Explorer Post sponsored by the police was
approved. It was mentioned that our
neighborhood business cards affixed to icebox magnets were a big hit and that
some should be brought to next month's meeting to be passed out for further
distribution in the neighborhood. Most
companies that donated items said they would do so again next year.
Officer
Nors printed off a report from the new crime statistics database for our area
for this month and passed it around. We
discussed the pertinent details. Pocket
parks were also discussed. DART was
asked about locating a bench and/or shelter for bus riders near Ave. P and
Parker Rd. DART said we do not have the
ridership for either. It takes 0-25
daily riders for a sign, 25-49 for a bench and over 49 for a shelter. The city could approve a 14' by 10' pad 45'
from the intersection if we wish to pursue it.
Traffic
at Barron School continues to be a problem.
The new park road is now open but the school has also opened the back
driveway for student drop-off. The
congestion on Abby blocks the use of the park road as an exit route. Planning & Zoning is looking at
re-platting the property. That
committee was unaware that there were insufficient parking spaces for all the
teachers and that Abby was being used for the overflow. They will be doing a
formal traffic study after school starts.
Officer Nors is working on getting signs for the new park road that will
make it's availability more visible to parents dropping off their students.
Officer
Nors also said that Ave. K from 18th to 14th streets will be reduced by 1 lane from 3 to
2 to reduce the speed of traffic to nearer the speed limit. We were all in agreement that it will only congest
the area further during rush hour.
The
next neighborhood meeting will be on 9/11 at 7:00 pm at City Hall at which time
annual election of officers will be held.
The
meeting was adjourned at 8:50 pm.
Respectfully
submitted,
Vicki
Verinder, Secretary/Treasurer
