VILLAGE CREEK NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

Minutes of the General Meeting held April 10th, 2008

The meeting was called to order by President Gene Verinder at 7:07 pm in the Building Inspection Conference Room, City Hall, Plano, Texas. There were 6 members in attendance and no guests.

The agenda was reviewed and approved. The minutes of the last meeting were approved and the treasury report was read and approved. The treasury has $605.69.

Old Business: none

New Business: the association did not participate in the Keep Plano Beautiful.

Current Projects:

1) South and north side tree trimming: James Edwards reports that he has only one candidate for a brush and tree trimming at a house near N Ave. and Felix. George Elkins may be able get volunteers from his Rotary Club to help.

Future projects:

1) Curb appeal projects – James will get with George Elkins to see if the rotary might help with some curb bush plantings.

2) Brainstorming on items we would like to present to Monique Coleman, the city’s neighborhood planning coordinator: The following were mentioned and will be posted on the web site. All association members are encouraged to add to this list via the web site or emails.

a) Request the city change their policy as to how close to the bank of creeks the grass is trimmed and bushes removed. Currently, it is too close, causing erosion and is responsible for trees falling into the creeks.

b) Request the city establish a trash barrier between park and private land. This could be a fence or bushes – some means of keeping the wind-blown trash from collecting in the creeks.

c) Discourage the Park Department from using compost to backfill ground openings. Dirt will compact and last much longer.

d) Discuss with other east side Neighborhood Associations the idea of forming a larger group with representation from each association and setting up an internet web site to facilitate communications.

Committee Reports:

1) Parker Road Widening: no complaints were to be forwarded to the construction company or the city.

2) Parker Road / US 75 Interchange Presentation: Gene will arrange to have a TXDOT presentation for the June meeting.

3) Ideas from the District 1 meeting (from James and Craig):

a) Meeting did not go well. It was one big show without split groups on different topics – the content was more like a P.R. presentation.

b) Create a list of constructive criticisms and ideas for the next meeting:

i) Equip all presentations to run on a single laptop.

ii) Have PDF or handouts for the audience.

iii) Use the small groups, single department discussion concept as it has worked much better at past meetings.

iv) Complete the list and give to Kate Perry as city representative.

No crime report was given. Crime statistics are now being presented on the city website by area and eventually will be by neighborhood.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:05 pm.

Respectively submitted,

Vicki Verinder, Secretary/Treasurer
